Yesterday, March 26, 2011, people all around the world turned off their lights to participate in the fifth annual Earth Hour. From 8:30 until 9:30 PM local time, people from 130 different countries turned off their power for one hour to take a stand against climate change. Earth Hour is also in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund.
Landmarks in thousands of cities, from the Panthenon in Athens, Greece, to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, also turned off their power. The first lights dimmed across Fiji and New Zealand and ended in full circle in Samoa, a full 24 hours later.
